Hello
My name is Lu Shuya, a Chinese artist. I like to apply my knowledge of history and aesthetics to create works of art. I hope to become an artist who understands the warmth of human beings in this era of cultural fusion and technological development, and strive to become a spokesperson of culture and history. Realizing that only art practitioners who continuously develop historical knowledge and social insights can better serve the world, my artistic actions and efforts in my bachelor's studies in painting at Beihang University and master's studies at Chelsea College of Art and Design have turned to antiques, porcelain, and other cultural symbols. In addition to various classroom works covering Chinese art history, General history of Chinese history and world archaeology, and history of contemporary Chinese history, I also participated in field research and research of many famous historical sites. Starting with the Mogao Grottoes, I studied the painting techniques and artistic conceptions behind ancient Chinese long axes and tomb murals, which helped me realize the important value of multi-ethnic art, Buddhist culture and archaeology. With the drive to explore the development of Buddhism, I came to Tibet and was exposed to the culture and ideology of local artists through ancient porcelain, temples and pottery, reminding me to accumulate cultural knowledge and historical insight to better serve the arts. To break the bottleneck of expressing key values in contemporary Southeast Asian art, good artists must consider the fraught relationship between painting and its social context, which stems from its promise of redemption and its relationship with authority. Whether religious or monarchical, independent of authoritarian or capitalist regimes, the context is a central structure at the heart, inviting art through history, politics and a wholesome break from tradition.
